About Paris

Paris is the capital of France, hosting approximately 2.2 million people. Paris started in 52 BC, as a Celto-Romano settlement on the left bank of Seine; it was founded by the Romans who conquered the area and called it Lutetia. Nowadays, the area where the city was built is the oldest part of the city and it is called the Latin Quarter.

This neighborhood is located in the 5th and some parts of the 6th arrondissements of Paris. It is famous for its student life because here lies several higher education institutions like École des Mines de Paris, École Normale Supérieure, Schola Cantorum and also Jussieu university campus. In the heart of the neighborhood there is the University of Sorbonne, one of the oldest and most famous universities in the world (and also the first Parisian university). The university started as a theology school and lessons were taught in Latin; it was a widely spoken language in this area this is why the neighborhood is called the Latin Quarter. The area also has several archeological remains such as the Roman baths and also some interesting buildings worth being visited: Place St. Michel fountain, Saint Julien le Pauvre Church and Saint-Séverin Church.

The Latin Quarter is also known for its narrow streets with numerous restaurants and bistros. The refined French cuisine offers delicious pastries, hundreds of cheese types and bread, flavored wines and sweet chocolates. As such, Paris Hotels Latin Quarter are proud to welcome you in the most romantic city in the world and are wishing you a pleasant stay while we will be taking care of your accommodation.
